6-Bromoimidazo[1,2-a]pyridine-3-carboxaldehyde (BIA) is a molecule that has been shown to have antibacterial activity. It inhibits bacterial growth by binding to DNA, preventing transcription and replication. BIA also has antiinflammatory properties, which may be due to its ability to reduce the production of prostaglandins. This molecule is used in the lithographic industry as a developer on unexposed photoresistive plates. It is applied under high pressure and then heated so that it can react with the hydrocarbon groups on the plate surface to form crosslinks between molecules and create an insoluble polymer layer.
