Tert-Butyl 3-cyano-4-oxopyrrolidine-1-carboxylate is an organic compound that is a tertiary amine. It has been optimized using the Dieckmann condensation to produce a sequence of isomers. The reaction time for the synthesis of this compound was found to be one hour at room temperature, and the yield was found to be 100%. Tert-butyl 3-cyano-4-oxopyrrolidine-1-carboxylate has been synthesized by reacting glycine with acrylonitrile in the presence of tert butyl chloride and triethylamine. This compound may also be synthesized from tert butyl alcohol and chloroacetonitrile. This reaction mechanism produces a carbamate as an intermediate product, which then reacts with ammonia to form tert butyl 3 cyano 4 oxopyrrolidin 1 carboxylic acid.
