- Thieno[2,3-B]Pyridine, 3-Bromo-
3-Bromothieno[2,3-b]pyridine is an organic compound that belongs to the group of chloroacetyl compounds. It has been used in the synthesis of a variety of other heterocyclic compounds. 3-Bromothieno[2,3-b]pyridine reacts with formaldehyde to produce 3-bromothiophene and dichloroethane. The reaction can be reversed by adding hydrogen chloride gas to produce 3-chlorothiophene and ethyl formate.
The molecule consists of three carbons, three hydrogens, one oxygen, and one bromine atom. The carbon atoms are attached together in a straight line with alternating single and double bonds. The oxygen atom is also connected to two chlorine atoms at the top and bottom of the molecule. This is called an aromatic ring because it contains four rings (two benzene rings).
