Product Information

Name:
1-Bromo-2-iodo-3-methoxybenzene
Description:

1-Bromo-2-iodo-3-methoxybenzene is a synthetic chemical that is used in the synthesis of indoles and furan derivatives. It can be prepared by coupling 1,2-dibromobenzene with 3-iodopropane. This reaction can be catalyzed by palladium to yield 1,2,3-triiodobenzene. The methoxy group on the bromine atom makes it selective for this type of reaction and also allows for the selective removal of the bromine atom from the molecule using hydrogen peroxide. 1,2,3-Triiodobenzene is then converted to 1-bromo-2-iodo-3-methoxybenzene by reacting it with sodium methoxide in methanol. This product has been shown to be synthetically useful in a number of reactions such as those involving indoles or furan derivatives.
