2-Bromo-5-chloroaniline is a bromoderivative of aniline that is produced by the reaction of aniline with chloroform. This compound has been used as a reagent in organic synthesis. It can be used in the synthesis of other compounds, such as alkyl halides and sulfonates, which are useful for drug development. 2-Bromo-5-chloroaniline is also used in chromatographic analysis to separate nonpolar compounds from less polar ones. It can also be used to determine the environment of certain sites on proteins or DNA molecules. The regiospecificity of 2-bromo-5-chloroaniline has been shown using site specific polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) to measure electron density at different positions on a protein surface.
2-Bromo-5-chloroaniline exists as two isomers: cis and trans
