Product Information
- Benzaldehyde, 2-bromo-3,6-dihydroxy- (9CI)
2-Bromo-3,6-dihydroxybenzaldehyde is an antibacterial agent. It has been synthesised from 2-bromoacetophenone and diethyl ketomalonate by a Friedel-Crafts reaction. This compound has shown bactericidal activity against Staphylococcus aureus and other Gram-positive bacteria. 2-Bromo-3,6-dihydroxybenzaldehyde is also active against Gram-negative bacteria such as Helicobacter pylori. This molecule has been found to inhibit the growth of cancer cells in vitro and in vivo. For example, it inhibits the growth of HCT116 cells in vitro and inhibits tumour growth in mice implanted with HCT116 cells. 2-Bromo-3,6-dihydroxybenzaldehyde is also efficient for staining DNA molecules on agarose gels or polyacrylamide gels.
