Description:
6-Bromo-3H-isobenzofuran-1-one is a selective solvent that can be used to extract 5-bromophthalide from an organic reaction mixture. It is also used in the preparation of anhydrides. 6-Bromo-3H-isobenzofuran-1-one reacts with acidifying agents, such as sulfuric acid or hydrochloric acid, to produce crystalline solids. The extraction of 5-bromophthalide can be accomplished by adding a solution of the 6-bromo compound to the reaction mixture and extracting it with ether.
