1-Bromo-4-cyclopropylbenzene is a tetroxide with a chemical formula of C6H4Br2. It is used as a reagent in organic synthesis and as a precursor to other chemicals, such as the cyclopropanes. 1-Bromo-4-cyclopropylbenzene is also used in the production of dinitrogen tetroxide and diethyl ether. It has been shown that this compound can be used to create anhydrous hydrogen chloride via transfer of chlorine from bromine to hydrogen gas. This process happens when 1-bromo-4-cyclopropylbenzene is heated with hydrotalcite, which acts as a catalyst for the transfer reaction. 1-Bromo-4-cyclopropylbenzene can be purified by distilling off the solvent or using diethyl ether followed by heating under vacuum.
