Tert-butyl (4-formylphenyl)carbamate is a fluorescent probe that can be used to detect biomolecules in mammalian cells. It reacts with anilines through a clickable reaction, which is an intramolecular reaction that involves the formation of a carbon-carbon bond. Tert-butyl (4-formylphenyl)carbamate has been shown to react with virulence factors in bacterial cells, making it useful for detecting bacterial infections. Tert-butyl (4-formylphenyl)carbamate has been used to study the effect of commensal bacteria on the intestinal cell culture model Caco2/18. This probe can also be used to measure the concentration of hydrogen gas in cells and tissues by inducing fluorescence emission via bathochromic shift.
