6-Bromocinnoline is a reversible inhibitor of protein kinase B/Akt. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of tumor cells in vitro, but not normal cells. 6-Bromocinnoline binds to ATP at the ATP binding site, which prevents the kinase from phosphorylating its substrates. The inhibition of protein kinase B/Akt leads to the inhibition of cellular activity and tumor cell growth.
