Product Information

Name:
3-(Bromomethyl)-2-chlorothiophene
Synonyms:
  • 2-Chloro-3-thienyl bromide
  • Thiophene, 3-(Bromomethyl)-2-Chloro-
Description:

3-(Bromomethyl)-2-chlorothiophene is a halogenated aromatic compound that is used as an antifungal agent. It is active against the fungus Candida albicans, which causes oral and vaginal infections. 3-(Bromomethyl)-2-chlorothiophene binds to the enzyme cytochrome P450 and inhibits its activity. This inhibition leads to an accumulation of substrate and production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), which causes cell damage. 3-(Bromomethyl)-2-chlorothiophene is soluble in ethyl acetate but insoluble in water, making it ideal for topical application.
