Product Information
Benzo[b]thiophen-3-amine hydrochloride (BTAH) is a sulfur-containing compound that has been isolated from coal tar. BTAH's disulfide bond can be cleaved by a variety of chemical treatments, including oxidation with nitric acid and sodium sulfide, or chlorination with carbon disulfide. The initial isolation was carried out by the reaction of sulfur and sodium chloride to form benzo[b]thiophen-3-amine hydrochloride (BTAH). This process generates a mixture of products, including the desired product in addition to other compounds such as benzo[b]thiophene-2-sulfonic acid.
