Description:
6-Bromobenzo[b]thiophene is a synthetic compound that has antioxidant properties and can be used in the treatment of cardiac disease. It binds to the iron atom in hemoglobin, thereby inhibiting the formation of heme and oxygen radicals. 6-Bromobenzo[b]thiophene may be able to scavenge free radicals, as it has been shown to have radical scavenging activity when exposed to hydrogen peroxide. This agent also possesses fluorescence properties, which can be utilized for biomedical applications such as fluorescence imaging. 6-Bromobenzo[b]thiophene has been shown to cleave bond by catalysis with diarylamines and carbazoles, as well as halogens such as chlorine or bromine.
