Description

5-Bromo-2,3-dihydro-1H-inden-2-ol is a chiral molecule that has two enantiomers. The mesylate form of this molecule is used as an intermediate in the synthesis of other drugs. 5-Bromo-2,3-dihydro-1H-inden-2-ol is obtained by recrystallization from alcohol and amine. This compound can be hydrogenated to yield 5-[(5'-bromo)phenyl]-2,3,4,5'-tetrahydrobenzofuran (referred to as 5BF). The hydrochloride salt of this compound is also available and can be synthesized by reaction with chlorine gas. The chloride salt is a white crystalline solid that melts at 140°C.
