5-Bromo-2-ethylpyridine is a pharmacological agent that has bronchodilatory effects. It is a substrate for the enzyme synthetase, which converts it to phthalazinone. The latter substance is then converted to thromboxane A2 by the enzyme thromboxane synthase. Thromboxane A2 causes the blood vessels in the lungs to constrict, which leads to increased levels of oxygen in the blood and other organs. 5-Bromo-2-ethylpyridine has been shown to have skeletal muscle relaxant effects and may be used as an alternative treatment for asthma.
