5-Bromo-2-(2,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrrol-1-yl)pyridine (5BP) is a chemical substance that can be used as an intermediate for the production of ethylene. 5BP has been shown to react with sodium dichromate and styrene to produce hexanedioic acid, which can be used as a starting material for the production of polyvinyl alcohol. 5BP has also been shown to react with 8-hydroxyquinoline and chlorobutanol in the presence of triazole to produce 2,8-dichloroquinoline. The reaction product is then reacted with glycol to produce 1,3,5-trisubstituted pyridines.
