6-Bromo-5-chlorobenzo[d]oxazol-2(3H)-one is an antimicrobial agent. It binds to the fatty acid polymers in the cell membrane of bacteria, leading to cell death. 6-Bromo-5-chlorobenzo[d]oxazol-2(3H)-one has been shown to be effective against Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria, as well as fungi. This drug has also been shown to be a diagnostic agent for urinary tract infections. The polymer film is biocompatible and can be used as a sealant or crosslinking agent for medical devices.
