Description:

4-Bromo-2-thiophenecarboxylic acid is a histone deacetylase inhibitor that is efficient in inhibiting the activity of histone deacetylases. It binds to the active site of the enzyme and inhibits its function by competitive inhibition. The brominated compound has been shown to be effective in screening for novel compounds with similar properties. 4-Bromo-2-thiophenecarboxylic acid also shows high efficiency in x-ray crystal structures, catalytic, and hydrated forms. One of the mutations found on this molecule was found to increase its catalytic efficiency.
