Product Information
- 5-Bromo-1,3-Thiazole
5-Bromothiazole is a fluorinated heterocyclic compound that inhibits the activity of lipase, an enzyme that breaks down fats. It has been shown to be a stereoselective inhibitor of the enzyme and is selective for monoacylglycerol lipase, which is responsible for hydrolyzing monoglycerides and free fatty acids in adipocytes. 5-Bromothiazole has been shown to be effective against tuberculosis by inhibiting the growth of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. This drug also has strong antibacterial and antifungal properties due to its halogen substituents. The fluorescence of 5-bromothiazole is quenched by ultraviolet light in the range of 290 nm - 320 nm, making it useful as a fluorescent probe for studying biological membranes.
