Description

Bicyclo[1.1.1]pentan-1-amine hydrochloride is an azide compound that can be used as a medicinal chemistry building block to create skeletons with diverse reactivity and chemistries. Bicyclo[1.1.1]pentan-1-amine hydrochloride is reportedly synthesized by the reaction of 1,3-dibromopropane with cyclopentadiene in the presence of sodium azide followed by hydrolysis of the resulting imine. The synthesis has been scaled up to multigram quantities by employing an analogous procedure using sodium nitrite as a reducing agent instead of sodium azide.
