Bis(4-allyloxyphenyl)sulfone is an organic compound with the formula C6H3(OCH2CH2)2OSO2. It is a colorless liquid that is soluble in organic solvents and slightly soluble in water. The compound is produced by the Friedel-Crafts reaction of allyl bromide with chlorosulfonic acid followed by hydrolysis of the sulfonyl chloride intermediate. Bis(4-allyloxyphenyl)sulfone can be used as a phase transfer catalyst for organic synthesis, as well as a developer for light sensitive films and paper. It has been shown to yield high yields when used to synthesize various cyclic compounds, such as benzene from acetylene or ethane from acetaldehyde. The compound also reacts with radionuclides to form radioactive isotopes, which are useful in nuclear medicine imaging.
