1,2,3-Benzothiadiazole-5-carbaldehyde is metabolized by cytochrome P450 enzymes to form active metabolites that are cytotoxic to tumor cells. The drug also has the ability to induce apoptosis in cancer cells and inhibit angiogenesis. 1,2,3-Benzothiadiazole-5-carbaldehyde has been shown to be effective against tumor cell lines derived from various organs including brain, lung, colon, prostate and endothelial cells. This drug also inhibits the production of caspase 3 in PC-3 prostate cancer cells.
