Product Information

Name:
1-Benzofuran-3-ylacetonitrile
Synonyms:
  • 3-Benzofuranacetonitrile
Description:

1-Benzofuran-3-ylacetonitrile is an anti-cancer drug that belongs to the class of benzofurans. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells and induce apoptosis, which is a programmed cell death. 1-Benzofuran-3-ylacetonitrile inhibits the synthesis of DNA and RNA by inhibiting the activity of specific enzymes (topoisomerase II, DNA polymerase) in the process. One study showed that this compound had a significant effect on cancer cells in mice and inhibited tumor growth when used in combination with vinblastine. The research also indicated that 1-(benzofuran-3-yl)acetonitrile was more effective than other benzofuran derivatives because it was more photostable and had lower toxicity to healthy cells.
