3-Bromothiophene-2-carbonylchloride is a chemical compound with the molecular formula CHBrCl. It is a colorless liquid that reacts with water to produce hydrogen bromide and hydrobromic acid. 3-Bromothiophene-2-carbonylchloride has been used in the synthesis of alkynes, terminal alkynes, acetylenes, amines and other organic compounds. The reaction mechanism of this compound is based on nucleophilic substitution. In this process, the nucleophile attacks the electrophilic carbon atom in 3-bromothiophene-2-carbonylchloride to form an intermediate carbocation which then reacts with another molecule of ammonium chloride. This reaction can be done using two different types of bases: triethylamine or diisopropyl amine.
