This molecule has a chromophore that emits red light. The functional groups in this molecule are alkyl substituents, which allow for reversible oxidation. 2-Bromo-9,9-diethylfluorene also has an irreversible oxidation reaction when it reacts with an acceptor such as anthracene or electron donor such as NADH. This reaction is efficient and allows for the production of ATP from ADP and inorganic phosphate (Pi).
