7-Bromo-1-indanone is a reactive intermediate in organic synthesis. It is generated by the thermal decomposition of 7-bromo-2,3,4,5-tetrahydrobenzo[b]thiophene and has been used as a ligand in Zirconium mediated reactions with phosphines. The reaction can be carried out at temperatures ranging from -78 to 150 degrees Celsius. This compound reacts with ethylene to generate tetrahydrofuran. 7-Bromo-1-indanone can also be used for alkylation reactions with alcohols and amines to form ethers or amides respectively. The reaction time required for this process ranges from 10 minutes to 12 hours.
