Description

5-(2-Bromophenyl)-1-(triphenylmethyl)-1H-tetrazole is a trityl reagent used in organic synthesis as a catalyst. The 5-bromophenyl group provides the necessary electron density to form a tetrazole. The 1,5-diphenyl triphenylmethyl group is introduced to provide steric protection for the phenylboronic acid. It is often used in Suzuki reactions due to its ability to activate alkenes and alkynes. Candesartan, telmisartan, and valsartan are all analogs of olmesartan that were synthesized from 5-(2-bromophenyl)-1-(triphenylmethyl)-1H-tetrazole.
