2-Benzothiazoleacetic acid is a molecule that binds to albumin, which may be due to its hydrophobic properties. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells in vitro and in vivo. 2-Benzothiazoleacetic acid also inhibits the replication of influenza virus and HIV by binding to viral ribonucleic acid (RNA) polymerase, preventing RNA synthesis. This compound has also been shown to inhibit bacterial growth, including methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus, by inhibiting protein synthesis. 2-Benzothiazoleacetic acid can be used as an antimicrobial agent for the treatment of viral infections such as influenza or herpes simplex virus and bacterial infections such as tuberculosis or Lyme disease.
2-Benzothiazoleacetic acid is synthesized from benzene and acetamide using nitrous oxide with a linear regression analysis on energy efficiency.
