Description:

4-Bromo-N-methylphthalimide is a chemical compound that has been reported to emit formaldehyde. This product is soluble in organic solvents and can be used as a reagent for the synthesis of other compounds. 4-Bromo-N-methylphthalimide can be prepared by reacting 4,4'-biphenol with phthalic anhydride in the presence of a base. The photophysical properties of this compound have been studied and it has been found to be fluorescent. The hybridized state of the molecule is due to the presence of two different functional groups (formyl and nucleophilic) that are separated by a distance of 1.5 Å. A variety of techniques have been employed to study the thermal behaviors of 4-bromo-N-methylphthalimide including thermogravimetric analysis and differential scanning calorimetry at various temperatures from -50°C to 100°C.
