5-Bromo-2-methylthiopyridine is a disulfide with the chemical formula of C4 H6 Br2 S. It crystallizes in needles or yellowish crystals and has a melting point of 92 °C. The elemental analysis yields sulfur, hydrogen, and bromine as its primary elements. The molecular structure was determined to be a pyridine ring with two methyl groups attached to it. 5-Bromo-2-methylthiopyridine is synthesized using the reaction of elemental sulfur and 5-bromopyridine. This process takes about 3 hours and requires an operational temperature between 50°C and 60°C.
