- 2-Bromo-thiazole-5-carbaldehyde
2-Bromo-5-formylthiazole is a semiconducting compound that has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells by introducing DNA damage. It also binds to the amide group of histone deacetylase, which prevents the enzyme from removing acetyl groups from lysine residues on histones and is thus a potent antiproliferative agent. 2-Bromo-5-formylthiazole binds to ATP in an acceptor fashion and inhibits its binding site, leading to inhibition of cell division. This compound also has potent hydroxamic acid activity, which may be due to its ability to bind with the hydroxamic acid site on catalase.
