Product Information
- Thianaphthene-2-carbonyl chloride
- 1-Benzothiophene-2-Carbonyl Chloride
Benzo[b]thiophene-2-carbonylchloride (BPC) is an antibacterial agent that has been shown to inhibit the growth of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. BPC inhibits bacterial growth by binding to the lipoprotein, which is an essential component of the bacterial cell membrane. It has been suggested that BPC binds to the aminopyridine site on the lipid bilayer, which would explain its selective activity against bacteria. The mechanism of action of BPC is not well understood, but it may involve a nucleophilic attack at the chloride atom or a ring opening reaction involving chlorine. The optical properties of this molecule are also unknown.
