Description:
Benzothiophenesulfoxide is an organic compound that has a sulfoxide group. It can be isolated from microbial cells, such as gram-negative bacteria, and is also found in the Gram-positive bacterium Acetobacter aceti. Benzothiophenesulfoxide is a component of the bacterial metabolism of benzothiophene and its derivatives. This molecule can be synthesized abiotically by the condensation of thiophene with formaldehyde. The chemical structure of benzothiophenesulfoxide can be converted to that of benzothiophene through desulfurization with potassium dichromate.
