2-Bromo-9,9-diphenyl-9H-fluorene is a brominated aromatic hydrocarbon that can serve as an efficient solid catalyst for the synthesis of phenols from alcohols. This compound has been shown to react with hydrogen chloride in the presence of aluminium to produce chlorobenzene. 2-Bromo-9,9-diphenyl-9H-fluorene is also used in photophysical studies and devices. The optical properties of this compound have been extensively studied and found to be dependent on its interactions with other molecules or surfaces. The hydrogen chloride ionization potential (IP) of 2-bromo 9,9 diphenyl 9H fluorene is given as -0.620 eV
