3-Benzyloxypropionitrile is a chemical compound that inhibits the reaction of sulfide with oxygen to produce sulfur dioxide and water. It binds to the sulfide ion, which prevents it from reacting with oxygen. 3-Benzyloxypropionitrile also has high affinity for hydrogen sulfide and reacts in a similar way as acetylsalicylic acid. The reactant is an analog of acrylonitrile and pyridazine, which are extractants for hydrogenation reactions. It is potently inhibitory in the presence of n-propyl.
