1,4-Bis(4-aminophenoxy)-2-phenylbenzene is a compound that has been shown to have cytoplasmic autophagic activity. It is a multifocal drug that can disrupt the cell's cytoskeleton and cause cell death by inhibiting protein synthesis. The compound also has a high viscosity and a lamellar phase in water. 1,4-Bis(4-aminophenoxy)-2-phenylbenzene catalyzes the reduction of phenyl groups with hydrogen gas and ammonia to form biphenyls. In addition, it can act as a nucleophile by reacting with apical thiol groups on proteins to create damaged proteins that inhibit their function. This drug also dephosphorylates phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) and phosphatidylinositol (PI).
