Description

1,4-Bis(4-cyanostyryl)benzene is used as a surfactant in the production of polymers and coatings. It has been shown to be effective against lepidoptera larvae that are resistant to insecticides. This compound is also used as an additive in silicone elastomers, which can enhance the durability of these materials. 1,4-Bis(4-cyanostyryl)benzene is synthesized from 4-cyanobenzaldehyde and 2,2'-bis(diethylamino)ethanol. It has a high melting point and low solubility in water.
