Description

3-Benzyloxybenzylbromide is a brominated aromatic compound that has been used in animal studies as an antiestrogen. It is found in the urine of some women, and may be excreted from nonhuman primates. This compound has been shown to have cancer-causing potential in animals, and it may be resistant to the effects of estrogens. 3-Benzyloxybenzylbromide binds to estrogen receptors and acts as an antiestrogen by inhibiting the binding of estrogens to these receptors. This compound also binds to DNA, forming a complex that blocks gene expression. 3-Benzyloxybenzylbromide is not metabolized by humans or animals, but is instead excreted unchanged into the environment.
