Description:

3-Biphenylmethanol is a biphenyl compound that functions as a hydrogen peroxide scavenger. It reacts with hydrogen peroxide to form 3-biphenylmethanal and benzoic acid. 3-Biphenylmethanol can be used in wastewater treatment, where it reduces the amount of hydrogen peroxide by oxidizing naphthalene. This reaction also produces biphenyl and picrate, which are precursors for the synthesis of pyrethroid insecticides. 3-Biphenylmethanol has been shown to catalyze the oxidation of ferredoxin and benzyl esters, which may increase the rate of fatty acid decomposition.
