Description:

1,1-Bis(hydroxymethyl)cyclobutane is a reactive compound that can be used as a binder in the production of polyurethane foam. It has been shown to react with chloropropane, malonate, vinyl ethers and oxetanes, alkylating them with the hydroxyl group on the cyclobutane ring. This reaction takes place within a few hours at room temperature. 1,1-Bis(hydroxymethyl)cyclobutane forms diethyl ester when reacted with ethyl bromoacetate or nitrate. The deamination of 1,1-bis(hydroxymethyl)cyclobutane occurs by hydrolysis of the esters and amides. Dichloroketene is formed from this reaction.
