Bis(4-carboxyphenyl)phenyl-phosphineoxide is an organic compound that can be used for the synthesis of polymers. It is a monomer that has an activation energy of 28.5 kJ/mol, and reacts with ethylene diamine to form bis(4-carboxyphenyl)phenyl-phosphine oxide. This reaction is in the category of Friedel-Crafts reactions, and it is a very important step in the industrial preparation of phenolphthalein, pyridoxal phosphate, calcium stearate and other compounds. The optimum temperature for this reaction is between 100°C and 110°C. The rate of this reaction increases with increasing temperature, but also increases with increasing concentrations of reactants. The optimal time for this reaction to complete is around 2 hours at 120°C.
