Description:

3-Bromo-5-(chloromethyl)pyridine is a chemical compound that is used in the synthesis of pharmaceutical agents and pesticides. 3-Bromo-5-(chloromethyl)pyridine can be obtained by reacting oxalyl chloride with methanol in the presence of an inorganic base, such as ammonium hydroxide or potassium carbonate. 3-Bromo-5-(chloromethyl)pyridine has been shown to be a good catalyst for photoreactions, including hydrogenation and nitrobenzene reduction. 3-Bromo-5-(chloromethyl)pyridine is also used in the synthesis of ergosterol, which is an important component of biological membranes. This chemical compound is also used as a reagent for the synthesis of polyurethane foams.
