5-Bromopyrimidin-2-yl)dimethylamine (5BPDA) is a nucleophile that can be used as an efficient debrominating agent. It has been shown to react with butyllithium in the presence of amines to form an intermediate alkyl lithium compound, which reacts with oxygen to yield a bromine atom and the corresponding primary or secondary amine. 5BPDA has been shown to be effective in the dehalogenation of aliphatic compounds by photochemical means. This reaction is initiated by irradiation of 5BPDA at 350 nm, leading to the formation of a nitro group and the corresponding aromatic compound.
