Product Information
- 5-Bromobenzo[beta]furan
- 5-Bromo Benzofuran
5-Bromo-1-benzofuran is a chemical compound that is transformed by the body into an amine. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells in vitro and in vivo. 5-Bromo-1-benzofuran inhibits the activity of an enzyme called anhydrase, which is involved in regulating cellular pH. The diphenyl ether moiety can be converted to a nitro group by nitroreductase enzymes found in living organisms, leading to potential carcinogenicity. 5-Bromo-1-benzofuran has been shown to have inhibitory activities towards Friedel-Crafts acylation and Friedel-Crafts reactions, which are used for industrial purposes such as the production of dyes and plasticizers. This compound has also been shown to inhibit mcf7 cells at temperatures below 42°C and can cause cancer when exposed to high temperatures.
