It has affinity for brain membranes and was found to have selective α2-adrenergic receptor activity in rat brain membranes. 1-(Bromomethyl)-4-chloro-2-nitrobenzene has been shown to be effective in experiments with isolated rat deferens and rat brain where it was found to have affinity for α2-adrenergic receptors.
