1-Methyl-2-naphthalenylboronic acid is a boronate ester of an indole. It reacts with potassium t-butoxide to form a potassium salt, which undergoes a Suzuki reaction with phenyl boronic acid to produce the corresponding indole. The 1-methyl group on the naphthalene moiety is removed by hydrolysis in acidic conditions to produce the desired product.
