Product Information
- 2-Bromo-5-phenyl-[1,3,4]oxadiazole
2-Bromo-5-phenyl-1,3,4-oxadiazole (BPOD) is a neurotoxic compound that has been shown to have anticonvulsant properties. It binds to the GABA receptor and inhibits the influx of chloride ions into neurons, leading to an increase in inhibitory neurotransmitters such as gamma amino butyric acid (GABA). BPOD also acts as a neurotoxin by inhibiting the activity of acetylcholinesterase. This inhibition leads to an accumulation of acetylcholine which causes neurotoxicity. BPOD has been shown to be more potent than phenytoin against maximal electroshock seizures in mice. BPOD also significantly reduces seizure duration and increases post-seizure survival time.
