2-Bromo-4-methylanisole (2BM) is a synthetic compound that has been used as a solvent and has shown to be a potential intermediate in the synthesis of butyric acid. It is also known to have oxidation products, which are chlorinated products of 2BM. This compound has been shown to inhibit the growth of cyanobacteria and bacteria that produce isopropyl groups, such as Escherichia coli. The chloride substituent on the bromine atom in 2BM influences its selectivity for bacterial targets.
