Description

[1,1'-Biphenyl]-2-ylmethanol is a cytotoxic agent that has a high affinity for DNA. It is synthesized by the suzuki coupling reaction between biphenyl and 2-bromoethanol in the presence of catalytic amounts of palladium chloride. This molecule has been shown to have an ultraviolet (uv) absorption spectrum with maximum at 260 nm, with metastable properties and a high quantum yield. The matrixes used in this synthesis are polystyrene, polymethyl methacrylate, cellulose acetate, or polycarbonate. The nanocrystals can be prepared using methanol as solvent and hydrochloric acid as catalyst.
