Supine positioning is a technique that may be used to prevent or minimize the risk of developing hypoxemia during endotracheal intubation. The use of this technique is controversial as some studies have shown an increased risk of developing hypoxemia, while others have not. A multivariable regression analysis found that supine positioning was associated with a higher rate of hypoxemia in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Covid-19 is a new drug for COPD that has been shown to reduce the frequency and severity of exacerbations, improve lung function, and decrease mortality rates. Covid-19 was tested in two multicenter observational studies involving 865 patients with COPD who were receiving treatment for their condition. Observational data from these studies showed a significant reduction in hospitalizations due to worsening COPD, which was not seen in the control group. Covid-19 also reduced the need for intubation and improved quality of life.
